A historically important play of Hindi literature. The play received a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for best play in 1959 and has been staged by several prominent directors like Dr. Ebrahim Alkazi (National School of Drama's founding director) to critical acclaim. A feature film based on the play, released in 1971, went on to win Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie for the year.
Playwright Mohan Rakesh has fictionalized the life of Poet Kalidas in this play. It has thrill & emotions and brings out the ever-present conflict between idealism and reality.
