What You Do with What You Got (Thief and the Cobbler Mix, updated description)

Hi, this is pengo from the year 2024 (Feb 9 to be exact)

I posted this in August 2010... I was inspired by the musician Pogo, but I ended up making this video private, in part from how some people had acted really hurtfully towards some of my older music (in 2010, I would have been 15 or 16) but also in part because at one point Pogo posted a misogynistic rant online in a video, and I had been around for when he posted it, and it really hurt a lot.

You may not know this, but I'm transgender. My relationship with my gender and my identity in general is really complicated, and hateful rhetoric towards women is a large part of why I felt so damaged with being perceived in feminine ways for a long time.
This musician I really looked up to posting a 'social experience' relating to treating women like children etc... It really hurt
Pogo doesn't owe me anything really, I was just a random fan, but it still did hurt in ways I didn't know how to process or handle

And at the time, a way people around me would act towards others would in essence be cutting any connection off to anyone hurtful ever
So I felt the correct way to act was to basically disown my influences

Instead of... accepting I felt hurt, I felt I had to take actions removing what I'd created related to things I cared about

Hence privating this video

Currently... I still feel sad over the pogo thing, but I've been asked about this song a few times and kept forgetting

I remember I really enjoyed making this and also making the video
It's kind of clunky but ... I don't know
It feels unkind to my teen self who really felt a lot of inspiration musically, to act ashamed of this?

Relating to people being cruel in comments of my videos (before this one) when I was 15, it's weird to be 30 now and realize that... adults were making fun of a teenager and telling a teenager they should never make music etc, that they're horrible so on
I mean, it's generally a cruel thing to say (and I say this with my own cruel history behind my belt, when I was 14 I hung around some pretty nasty places and I got normalized to just making fun of people. if anyone ever experienced that from me, i'm really sorry about that) to anyone, adult or not, but it's so... strange

when I was 15 I felt "oh... I guess I deserve this... if I'm not good, I deserve to be hurt" and that's just sad

I do feel a lot of the elements in this song aren't to the standard I would move towards today, same with the video, but I also feel like I had such a love and intrigue for this film and for music in a way that ... is honestly inspirational to myself currently

It's hard lately, due to my struggles with OCD and whatever else, to feel motivated to make music
I've been working on myself, trying to remember how it felt to be so happy to just... create and want to share

so here this is, again

I looked to see if I had the original file, but it might have been on the external drive that I don't know how to fix

Okay so some folks wanted to hear some of my music.


recently i have been working on a pogo-esque mix of the thief and the cobbler (the recobbled version)


For those of you who don't know what pogo is or does, he's a guy who makes amazing songs using sounds from movies or other things    / fagottron  

For those of you who don't know what The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled is...
Basically great animator Richard Williams was going to make Thief and the Cobbler his masterpiece but then it was yanked from him (after decades of work) and turned into two really dumb movies. You can see the movie here    • Видео  

The two movies it became are The Princess and the Cobbler (Tack talks includes dumb songs) and Arabian Knight ( Tack talks includes dumb songs and THIEF talks. Also made thief and cobbler look like an aladdin rip off.)
