What is prayer? And so for those of us who believe, we're, as it were, talking to God, but some people say, no, you're just talking to yourself. There is no God or there's nobody answering. And so prayer is not, I don't believe prayer is the same thing as putting your dollar into the machine to get a candy bar. Prayer is sitting down and kind of retelling the events of my day, of my life, in such a way that I can, number one, learn from them, and number two, improve on them. Prayer is oftentimes, I find it an awakening to, wow, I'm the treasure of my parents. I never could appreciate. And so going back and remembering them. So what is that prayer is waking up? I don't believe that prayer is like a fix it. God, this is broken, so you fix it. God, that's broken, so you fix it. Prayer is probably the... the event, the time when I say, God, how do I do it? What do I get out of it? And is there always an answer? Is there an answer that comes? Not necessarily. Not necessarily. And if I don't, if I say nothing's happening, I'm just talking to myself, then I would say, don't do it. Don't do that. Do something better. What is better? Showing up for work and saying to the boss, what do you want from me today? Showing up for prayer and saying to God, what do you want from me today? That's better.
