In her performance, Ilisha Thiru Purcell investigates who is able to rest as a poetic journey, on the power of dreams and sleep as a growing health inequality.
Ilisha is an award-winning poet performer and facilitator from Newcastle upon Tyne. In 2023, she was a young Creative Associate with New Writing North who are in the house, where she wrote a sequence of poems and made a poetry film inspired by the classical Tamil love poetry.
Ilisha has been commissioned to perform at the Newcastle Poetry Festival and has been shortlisted for Nine Arches Primers Volume 7. Ilisha's performance takes us through cycles of sleep punctuated by a sleep health questionnaire she has created.
The performance includes images of artwork created by the visual artist Janna Ajmal in response to one of Ilisha's poems. Ilisha.
