Performing a Brake Fluid Exchange is a great way to ensure that the braking system on your car will perform the way that it was designed to.
Over time, whether you drive the car or not, moisture can and will build up within the brake fluid resevoir on your car. Once this moisture enters the system it can result in a number of issues if it is ignored over an extended period of time.
The obvious symptoms would be a spongy or soft feel in your brake pedal while braking. Other issues such as 'brake fade' can occur and be a serious safety concern while driving.
We recommend a brake fluid exchange every 2 years, regardless of mileage. This is one of the many things that we inspect during our regular courtesy inspections. We use a fancy piece of equipment that helps identify the exact percentage of moisture within your brake fluid!
If your car has 1%- 2% water content/moisture in your brake fluid, you should be good to go for a little while. Once we start to see a higher value of 3%-4% and higher, that is when we really recommend thinking twice about our brake fluid exchanges!
