Looking at lovely Kiwi now, it’s hard to imagine how poorly she was when she arrived at Redwings thanks to the infectious disease ‘Strangles’. 💛
Kiwi needed veterinary care and lots of TLC from our teams for two months, all within a strict quarantine area to make sure the bacteria didn’t get passed to other horses. Thankfully Kiwi made a full recovery and, once tests showed this sweet pony was free of infection, she was finally able to start making new friends at Redwings, including our vet Dawn!
Strangles affects hundreds of horses every year, yet the spread of infection can often be prevented with sensible precautions. Strangles is a horrible, even life-threatening disease, and that’s why Redwings is proud to be part of the Strangles Awareness Week collaboration and work towards a world where fewer horses have to suffer what little Kiwi endured. 💛
Strangles Awareness Week runs from 5th – 11th May so look out for top tips and fascinating facts and share content to help spread the word, not the disease! #SAW25 #StranglesAwarenessWeek
