It is used in balms, cough drops, inhalers, toothpastes, mouthwashes, hair oils, etc On account of development and dissemination of menthol-rich, high yielding and short duration plant varieties coupled with improved agro-technology for cultivation and primary processing by CSIR-CIMAP, menthol mint (Mentha arvensis) has emerged as a major industrial crop, currently cultivated on about two and half lakhs hectares involving near about five lakhs farm families contributing 75 to 80% global requirement.
