Submarkets are segmentations of bigger markets. For example, instead of focusing on the market for vehicles, we can split into the market for petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars. The extent of monopoly power often depends in part on how we define the market, so knowledge of submarkets can be a useful concept to use in evaluation.
