A blast of winter weather is creating travel challenges across Northeast Ohio, especially for those not used to snow, ice and strong winds.
Sisters Mia and Alexsa Wilde, visiting from California, said the conditions were a shock.
“Here it’s, like, snowy,” they said.
The icy roads quickly changed how they drove.
“You have to drive super slow because it’s so icy on the roads and everything, so it’s, like, a lot more difficult,” Alexsa said.
“You actually have to like pay attention more,” Mia added.
Ohio Department of Transportation officials say that kind of caution is exactly what drivers need as winter weather continues to impact the region.
“The big thing really for the rest of this week is to plan ahead. Make sure you’re staying up to date on the forecast from credible outlets, like Channel 3,” said Matt Bruning with ODOT.
Bruning said ODOT has more than 400 crews working in the elements statewide, with most deployed in Northern Ohio. He urged drivers to slow down and adjust to changing conditions.
