基督教会的四大特点之一是神圣。耶稣基督是神圣的，所以教会作为基督的身体，也必须是神圣的。我们说教会是神圣的，不是指教会里的每一个人都很圣洁完美。教会的成员不管是圣洁，还是有罪，都不影响教会的神圣性。基督徒在多大程度上可以称得上神圣，与这个人在多大程度上生活在上帝之中有关。加入教会，并不能使人对罪免疫，而罪则使人离开基督的神圣。我们说教会是神圣的，意思是教会的任务是将我们从罪的奴役中解救出来，将我们的生命献给上帝，并藉着上帝的力量圣化我们的生活。

One of the four characteristics of the Christian Church is holy. Jesus Christ is holy, and therefore the Church, as the body of Christ, must also be holy. When we say that the Church is holy, we do not mean that everyone in the Church is holy and perfect. Whether the members of the Church are holy or sinful does not affect the holiness of the Church. The degree to which a Christian can be called holy has to do with the degree to which the person lives in God. Joining the Church does not make a person immune to sin, which removes a person from the holiness of Christ. When we say the Church is holy, we mean that the mission of the Church is to deliver us from the slavery of sin, to dedicate our lives to God, and to sanctify our lives by the power of God.
