There were a few other thoughts I wanted to put into the video, but I really didn't want to go over the 10 minutes mark. A lot of people have stated that it is horrible that James is earning profits off of someone else's idea. That, or they go on about how they hate the idea of fanfiction in general, and say, "come up with your own ideas!" To the first point, a number of us praise fairytale retellings such as Cinder, so where exactly do we draw the line? Yes, she is earning money from ideas based off of someone else's stories, but is that really such a bad thing? This is certainly not hurting Meyer's prophets in any way.

And for the people who simply despise all fanfiction-I think in general, the people who write FF (not me, I just occasionally read it) or often the largest fans of the works they base their writings from. In the case of HP, they're the ones who have been to the theme park, were the characters for Halloween, bought the merchandise, and read the book 50 times. For them, writing FF is simply another outlet for expressing their love for the world and characters. After all, isn't one of the greatest aspects of starting a new book the idea that you will be able to delve into that world and create stories from it? What is so wrong with choosing to write that down and share it?

steps off of soapbox I also want to add that I know I didn't talk about a lot of aspects of this book and talked more about the phenomenon in general, but I didn't really have much to say...what could I do, talk about my favorite sex scene? haha but if there was something about the book that you wished I had talked about and wanted to get my opinion on, be sure to let me know.
