(6 Jun 1978) Speaking at a press conference in Dacca, on Tuesday, (6 June), Bangladesh President Zia-Ur-Rahman said that the recent elections in his country were perfectly peaceful and that the results showed a genuine desire for "peace, stability and development" by the people. Zia won an overwhelming majority in the elections on Sunday(4 June), but some opposition sources charge that there had been massive vote rigging. Zia denied that there were any irregularities in the election procedures
