Physiology is the study of how living things, including humans, function. Through physiology, we aim to understand the fundamental mechanisms that operate in a living organism and how they interact. Physiology can be investigated at the level of the whole body, organ systems, tissues and cells at the molecular level.
Pathophysiology is the natural counterpart to physiology. It is the study of how things go wrong in living things and affect the body’s systems, causing functional changes that can lead to health consequences such as a disease or a disorder.
The University of Manitoba is western Canada’s first university, established in 1877, and located on original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. We are Manitoba's only research-intensive university, and one of the country’s top research institutions. We have more than 29,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and more than 145,000 alumni living in 140 countries.
