Tex Avery's Red Voice Comparison:

Tex Avery's Red a character that was quite popular when she made her debut in the 1943 MGM feature Red Hot Riding Hood didn't have a specific voice her original voice was imitations of famous people, Katharine Hepburn, Mae West, Southern Accent, Baby Brooklyn Accent. The character also had many name changes, in one episode she's known as Lou and in another Little Eva and Miss Vavoom in the 90s series as based on Red - actually is Red or she wouldn't have the design, sometimes looked like Jessica Rabbit in that series as Jessica Rabbit who was partly based on Red.

The character design was inspired by Rita Hayworth and other popular Hollywood sex symbols of that generation and her original singing voice was based on African American singer (mixed) with white a singer that white people could accept - in her own words, Lena Horne. With vocals by Connie and Imogene. Red later went on to inspire Disney's Jessica Rabbit who was also inspired by Veronica Lake, and also Holli Would (Hollywood pun) played by Kim Basinger was inspired by Red. Since Grey took over the role of the character Red's speaking voice is now neutral - like her singing voice.

1. Sara Berner - 1940s (Speaking Voice/Imitations)

In 1936 Sara was featured in the Brooklyn N.Y paper stating that she was the greatest imitator ever heard. Working primarily with the Warner Bros. animation department but receiving no screen credit. Mel Blanc was the only voice actor at that time to be given on-screen credit. Later on she was fully replaced by Bea - meaning no longer needed. Berner had also pleaded innocent to a charge of endangering the life of her 7-year-old daughter. Claiming she called the police several times earlier asking police protection, claiming her ex-husband, Milton Rosner, 37, was on the way to kill her. When the officers tried to reason with her, she became abusive and started screaming. The officers said it was necessary to handcuff her to restrain her as she allegedly tried to attack them. The daughter was taken to Juvenile Hall, then turned over to her father.

Note: June Foray did not do the speaking voice of Red, she played a character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Lena the Hyena who was a reference to Red's grandma as man crazy. In a full exclusive interview with Foray in 2012 entitled June Foray's Animated Life, she went through all the characters she had voiced, Red was not mentioned. In the 1988 documentary Tex Avery, the King of Cartoons June talks about Tex Avery. The people on the show talk about Red and show off footage animation of the character, June does not state that she did the voice for Red, she only states that she did a majority of characters for Tex Avery. Bea Benaderet & Coleen Collins have also been falsely credited as the role of Red. - There are no on-screen credits for the character Red. Bea - played the role of the crazy wolf sex-mad Grandma not Red. Bea later replaced Sara as the main voice actress for the studios and she was later replaced by June Foray.

2. Daws Butler 1940s (Little Rural Riding Hood)

It was thought that Colleen Collins did the role when
in fact the voice is that of a man's not Pinto Colvig - Daws Butler.

3. Connie Russell - 1940s (Singing) - (Red Hot Riding Hood)

4. Imogene Lynn - 1940s (Singing) - (The Shooting of Dan McGoo)

5. Teresa Ganzel - 1990s (Speaking)
