Cartago is a Colombian municipality located in the north of the department of Valle del Cauca, which is located on the banks of the La Vieja River and the Cauca River runs along the western side of its territory. It is known as La Villa de Robledo and also as the city of the happiest Sun in Colombia. It was initially founded in 1540 in the place where the city of Pereira is today, by small Spanish settlements driven by Jorge Robledo. Cartago is home to the state entities that serve the municipalities of the North of Valle del Cauca. Cartago is located approximately 187 km from Cali, the capital of the department. It is one of the oldest towns in the Department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia and South America (History of South America/The oldest cities).
