Hestia’s primary domain was the hearth, The name "Hestia" literally translates to "hearth" or "fireside" in Greek. This reinforces her role as the divine embodiment of the sacred flame that warmed homes and symbolized civilization itself. which was both a literal fire in the home and a symbolic center of family and community life. She represented warmth, hospitality, and stability, making her an essential, though often overlooked, deity in Greek religion.
In Rome, Hestia was known as Vesta, and she was even more important than in Greece. The Vestal Virgins, a powerful and highly respected group of priestesses, tended her sacred flame in the Temple of Vesta in Rome. If the flame ever went out, it was seen as a dire omen for the city.
