Eris, the goddess of discord and strife, was not a figure of beauty or benevolence like many of her divine counterparts. Instead, she thrived in the chaos and turmoil that others feared. According to Hesiod's Theogony she was born of Nyx, the primordial goddess of night, Eris embodied the darker aspects of human existence.
