In our very first full episode, we sit down with my wife, Kat, to share a story we’ve never told in this much detail before. What starts off as a lighthearted conversation quickly unfolds into a powerful, emotional journey through her childhood, health battles, and survival.

Born with the rare kidney disease FSGS, Kat’s kidneys never grew past the size of a small child’s. By age five, she was fighting for her life while also being taken from her family and placed into the foster care system. In this episode, she opens up about:
    •    Growing up in California and the moment her health took a drastic turn
    •    Being removed from her home at just 5 years old
    •    Her experience in an abusive foster home
    •    Living months at a time inside a hospital
    •    Learning English through hospital staff while doing school in a hospital room
    •    Her first kidney transplant, losing it, and returning to dialysis as a child
    •    Meeting the family that would eventually adopt her
    •    The emotional confusion of being separated from her siblings
    •    The truth and misinformation she was told as a kid
    •    Her second kidney transplant at age 20
    •    The strength, trauma, and resilience that shaped who she is today

Even through the heavy moments, we share laughs, memories, and “real-us” moments — joking about ADHD, dyslexia, childhood accents, crickets in Mexican food, and even scorpions in tequila.

This episode is raw, honest, emotional, and sometimes funny in the way only we can make it. It’s the beginning of a story that gets even deeper in Part 2.
