Handel: Oboe Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Major, HMV 301
Leon Goossens with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Eugene Goossens
Recorded September 2, 1937, in EMI's Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London, on Gramophone Company 78-rpm matrices 2EA 5308 and 5309. First issued as HMV C 2993 in August, 1938, and as Victor 12605 in 1940. The HMV issue remained available until 1958, only one year before EMI deleted the majority of 78-rpm records on its catalogues.
The Concerto is in four movements:
1. Adagio
2. Allegro (at 1:57)
3, Siciliana: Largo (at 3:46)
4. Vivace (at 6:03)
The Goossens brothers, Eugene and Leon, made many recordings separately, of course, but this is one of the few, if not the only, where they are credited together.
