1970 American Motors “Javelin” SST
The Javelin was introduced in 1968 with a 343 Cu. In. V-8 engine.
In 1970 the power and displacement increased to 390 Cu. In. V-8
Producing 325 HP.
Let’s remember, this is the “Muscle Car” era!
Our example shown says the 390 was producing 450 HP, so we know there had to be some modifications.
I believe this one to be a tribute to the “Trans Am” model that American Motors only produced 100 of.
Presented in “Matador Red”, “Frost White” and “Commodore Blue”.
There was a limited production “Mark Donohue” edition was in honor of the famed “Trans AM” series driver.
Total 1970 SST production: 20,500. In comparison the 1970 Mustang, sold 197,045.
