With Matchbox recently releasing a 2018 new model, '33 Plymouth PC Sedan, I thought that I could show some diecast samples of classic cars from the 1930's! I have diecast samples from Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning and Matchbox. Unfortunately, that era of automotive history isn't getting much attention with toy car companies.
Hot Wheels sent the Mercedes 540K, '31 Doozie (Duesenberg), and Auburn 852 through their Final Run series so those won't be released again. However, Mattel could come up with new tooling of a slightly different car though (hint hint).
We haven't seen releases of the Talbot Lago, 1936 Cord, '37 Bugatti, '38 Phantom Corsair, 1936 Classic Cord, Rolls Royce Phantom II and '35 Classic Caddy in many years! They may be gone...
The '32 Ford got a re-tooling and was recently in the basics. Some of these models are quite likely still in Mattel's tool bank as it hasn't been too long since we had releases of the '32 and '34 Ford Delivery, '34 Ford Roadster, '37 Ford Woodie and Phaeton.
If you've heard of Hot Wheels HiRakers, I used samples of the 3-Window '34 and '40's Woodie.
Some Hot Wheels cars do get used in their premium lines such as Boulevard and Pop Culture. Samples of which are the 1934 Chrysler Airflow, Classic Packard and Fat Fendered '40.
Hot Wheels is celebrating their 50th anniversary so I showed the vintage redline Classic Cord, Classic '31 Ford Woody and Classic '36 Ford Coupe.
I used many Treasure Hunt samples for this presentation. Back in the day, there weren't two versions (basic Treasure Hunt, Super Treasure Hunt). We got one version and that was it. For more information, check out my "What is a Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt or Super Treasure Hunt"

It wasn't until I made this video that I realized that Johnny Lightning has done a lot of cars from that era! It turned out that I have lots of Johnny Lightning classic cars from that era! The 1931 Cadillac Cabriolet is fantastic!
Most of these Johnny Lightning samples were from their Surf Rods series. 1929 Crew Cab, '37 Packard (Meat Wagon), 1931 Ford Model 'A' Station Wagon, and WC-54 Ambulance.
These JL aren't from the 30's but check'em out anyway. (1940Ford Sedan Delivery, 1941 Chevrolet Special Deluxe Wagon, 1950 Mercury Wagon).
I don't know what the Tom Daniel's Root Beer Wagon is based on. If you find out, let me know!
My selection of Matchbox models are quite limited so the '33 Plymouth PC Sedan is very much appreciated! I only had the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II, 1921 Model T Ford, Model A Ford Van, Model A Ford and '33 Ford Coupe. Mattel actually re-tooled that coupe and I showed it in this video. Lotus Super Seven was actually from the 70's. It was be fantastic if they could use the 1939 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery again!
