In a significant boost to India's electronics manufacturing sector, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated Syrma SGS's new state-of-the-art laptop assembly line in Chennai. Located in the Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), the facility marks a milestone in India’s shift from mobile phone manufacturing to becoming a key player in IT hardware production.
The new facility, under the PLI 2.0 scheme, will initially produce 100,000 laptops annually, with plans to scale up to one million units per year within the next 1-2 years. This expansion is set to create 150-200 jobs by FY26, boosting local employment and economic growth.
Syrma SGS has partnered with Micro-Star International (MSI), a global leader in technology, to manufacture laptops at world-class standards. This move aligns with India's vision of becoming Atmanirbhar Bharat by reducing dependency on imported laptops and positioning the country as a global hub for IT hardware manufacturing.
The facility not only meets domestic demand but also strengthens India's role in the global IT supply chain, reflecting the country’s evolving manufacturing landscape from mobile phones to high-end IT products.
