A transparent public procurement system can prevent, detect, and respond to essential substandard and falsified medical products. The video showcases how some best practices in state-level procurement can help in efforts to assure medicines quality for all.
While many LMICs recognize quality as a concern, they tend to prioritize quality only after access and affordability. USP in collaboration with the Government of Kerala (India), conducted a study of quality assurance in the public procurement system of the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd. (KMSCL), to identify observations followed by KMSCL that align with global best practices of quality assurance, and opportunities for strengthening the existing public procurement system.
