How To Install Cisco Modeling Labs

I wanted to do a quick demonstration of how install and configure Cisco CML-P (VIRL 2) using VMware Workstation Pro and MacOS. Cisco VIRL 2.0 (aka Cisco Modeling Lab) is one of your best options for CCNA, CCNP and CCIE Labs. It is a Cisco product that uses official Cisco IOS, NX, ASA and other Cisco virtual images (no legal issues or concerns here!). In the video I show you how to create a new virtual machine with the Cisco CML OVA file (this is what runs the server), then modifying a few configurations (like connecting the ISO file that has all the images for all the different Cisco devices that are used in the lab). Once the box is then booted, we create two accounts (one for managing the VM and one for managing the lab). Lastly I walk you through accessing both, registering the CML software, and then spin up our first IOSv image!

Cisco CML-P does cost $199, so if that is not affordable at the moment, there is a free version available in Cisco DevNet. It's on demand, you must schedule the time in 4 hour blocks, and it doesn't persist the labs/configs you create. So there are some negatives, but a great option none the less.
