Not just any old horse. Visiting Castle Combe

So it's our final couple of days at Devizes Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Val forgets to get the bacon for breakfast after the excitement of the Westbury White Horse in the previous episode. Dave decides that we will have a stroll along the Kennet and Avon canal , directly adjacent to the Devizes Campsite, and call at The Barge Inn for a spot of breakfast. Dave practices his botanical skills by trying to identify a type of fruit tree.

After a lovely chilled day we plan our final trip out of this adventure to the medieval village of Castle Combe, believed to be the prettiest village in England. It is certainly beautiful with its stone houses, and its meandering stream, where it feels like time stood still. We discover there is more to the village than just houses with the spectacular St Andrews Church and the Medieval Market Cross in the centre of the village.We discover that this village setting was used in various films including War Horse in 2011 and it is understandable why this would be the perfect setting. Finally we grab a locally baked lemon drizzle cake and head back to the van for the last time this year.
