Welcome aboard this Boeing 777-200LR flight from Tokyo Narita to Amsterdam Schiphol. Today’s route follows a polar eastbound track, avoiding Russian airspace and reflecting current real-world airline operations. Instead of the traditional trans-Siberian routing, we’ll fly over the Arctic - Alaska, Canada, and Greenland, requiring careful fuel planning, ETOPS considerations, and long-range performance — a mission suited to the 777-200LR.
Shortly after departure around 3PM, we head into the night. As we cross the polar regions, the sunrise unfolds slowly, stretching over several hours due to our high-latitude route. Approaching Europe, daylight gradually fades again, with dusk setting in near Amsterdam, giving us a landing around sunset — a rare and beautiful sequence of lighting that makes polar long-haul flights truly special.
