Raag Rasavali | Holi de khyaal | Pushti Kirtan

When we think about Shri Hariraiji, the Viprayog Swaroop of Shri Vallabh, we think of him as Shiksha Sagar, the learned one. But there is also a side of him that overflows with nectar, the ras of love. That side of him is known as ‘Rasik,’ his pen-name for all the kirtan and pads he wrote for Prabhu.

And look at his proficiency, that he composed a kirtan in Punjabi, a language far far away from his native tongue, and ended up making it more rasatmak than probably any other kirtan of Holi.

He wrote of gopijan begging and pleading to be spared for once, who also longed to be coloured the deepest by their beloved. He wrote of their shame in front of all of Vraj, which was nothing when compared to the pleasure of their beloved’s touch... he wrote of Holi and Love, both games, both filled with joy, both fulfilled when you lost. Because in both, losing is winning.

Tomorrow, with Patotsav, as Holi Khel will turn intense in Prabhu, may this beautiful composition by ‘Rasik’, also one of the most celebrated kirtans of Raag Rasavali, sung by Shrinathji’s kirtan Mandli, bring ras to you.

આ તમે શું કર્યું?

મને ફૂલોથી લાડ લડાવી ને, મારો ઘૂંઘટ ઉતારી નાખ્યો.

મારી આંખો ને ગુલાલથી ભરી નાંખી,
અને મારા થી, તમારા દર્શ નો આનંદ પણ છીનવી લીધો.

સખીઓની સામે તમે મને ચુંબન કરી લીધુ , અને હું શરમથી મરી રહી છું.

હે નંદલાલ, સમસ્ત વ્રજ ની સામે મને આમ ના શરમાવો.

હું તમારા બધાંજ હોળી ના અટકચાળા માટે તૈયાર છું,
તમે જીત્યા , હું હારી.
