Our free online Traditional Irish Singing courses are brought to you by Nell Ní Chróinín, the vocalist with the internationally renowned band Danú. Raised in an Irish speaking part of County Cork, the Múscraí Gaeltacht, Nell has been singing since she was a child and in 2014, she became the youngest person ever to win the prestigious 'Corn Uí Riada' Sean-nós Singing competition. A trained teacher as well as professional singer, Nell often runs workshops at music festivals as well as performing at festivals in the USA and Europe and beyond with Danú. In this short introduction to the course she talks about the different styles of Sean-nós (old style) singing across Ireland’s regions and mentions the content the course will cover, from the importance of getting the emotion of the song across to breathing correctly and adding in the ornamentations that are unique to Sean-nós Singing.
