Demon Lord Dante is an unfinished 3 volume horror manga series by Go Nagai. The 13 episode anime series draws not only from the original manga, but also the two manga remakes by Aki Fuuga and Go Nagai himself, as well as including its own additions. As a central motif, the series seeks to invert the typical depiction of good and evil, with the violent and monstrous demons being treated as the heroes.

The series follows Ryou Utsugi, a college student, who is haunted by recurring dreams of a giant demon, Dante. Ryou finds himself in middle of a conflict between a devil-worshipping cult that seeks to revive Dante through human sacrifice and a religious secret society seeking to protect humanity by combating the demons and their allies.

The manga is a common ancestor of Go Nagai's more known works, Devilman and Mazinger Z. Devilman originated when Demon Lord Dante was considered for an animated adaptation by Toei, but deemed too violent for an television anime of the time; both the Devilman manga and the anime were created simultaneously as a new work inspired by Demon Lord Dante's story. Mazinger Z, which introduced the idea of manga and anime based on piloted mecha, drew on Demon Lord Dante for its concept and design. As Ryou Utsugi is embedded in Dante's head, so does Kouji Kabuto pilot Mazinger Z from the Hover Pilot that docks into its head, and Mazinger Z's grill-like mouth is meant to invoke Dante's fanged mouth.
