Ruta de las Lagunas

Leaving the Salar de Uyuni behind, we drive south into one of the most remote and surreal landscapes on Earth.

This is the famous Route of the Lagoons — a high-altitude track that cuts through Bolivia’s southwest, crossing a chain of colored lakes, active volcanoes, and empty deserts on the way to Chile.

There are no highways here.
No gas stations.
No towns.
Only wind, salt, dust, and the thin air of the Altiplano.

We pass flamingo-filled lagoons, steaming geysers, and rock formations carved by centuries of brutal weather. Every kilometer feels like driving across another planet.

This route is not about speed.
It is about endurance, navigation, and respect for a land that does not forgive mistakes.

Traveling by Jeep, fully self-sufficient, we cross from Bolivia into Chile through one of the most isolated border crossings in South America — where the Andes rise straight out of the desert and the road simply disappears into the horizon.

This is not tourism.
This is exploration.
