Garbage Dump Graffiti, toy photography.

Hello, and welcome back to another behind the scenes toy photography video!

This week I'm going to show you what to do with your Star Wars Black Series Credit Collection figures.

I call this shot: Garbage Dump Graffiti.

For this shot I used Sabine Wren, Dark Troopers, New Republic Security Droids and the Credit Collection Dark Trooper from Hasbro's Star Wars the Black Series.

I don't usually buy Black Series figures from the Credit Collection, since they're mostly just weirdly coloured variants of existing toys, but this Dark Trooper was dirt cheap on clearance and I knew just the shot I wanted to take with it.

While Star Wars Rebels showed us plenty of the Mandalorian Artist Sabine Wren and her penchant for graffiti, I thought that the Ahsoka series let the artistic side of this character fall by the way side. I thought I could take a shot of her spray painting a Dark Trooper, and since all the Dark Troopers we saw on screen were likely decommissioned, I decided to set the scene in a New Republic junkyard.

A frustrating part about 3D printing is that you tend to accumulate a lot of unused odds and ends, but scraps like that actually make it really easy to throw together a junk heap.

I threw a couple regular Dark Troopers in with the junk to make it apparent that the Credit Collection trooper was a different colour.

With my garbage in place, I positioned my Ahsoka series Sabine Wren figure in front of the Dark Trooper along with her borrowed spray paint gun from the Rebels series Sabine figure.

After filling out the background with some more garbage, I placed a fence and security detail up top. The fence was borrowed from my original 90s Jurassic Park Compound play set.

Here's my starting image. Aside from a few basic touchups, the only major edit I needed was to add some spray from the paint gun.

I began by adding adjustment layers for levels and colour balance. I darkened the darks and mids, and balanced the colour more towards the reds and magentas, to give the whole scene a late afternoon, early twilight feel.

I also added a multi layered vignette to darken up the corners, and a layer mask to avoid darkening my subject too much.

After that, I used content aware fill to remove Sabine's articulation joints.

Next, I used the dodge tool to lighten up Sabine even more, before using a custom brush to stamp in some spray paint from the gun. I gave it a bit of motion blur and change the blend mode to dissolve to make it look more like aerosol.

So once again, here's my starting image. And here's where I ended up!

Thank you so much for watching.
