পশ্চিমবঙ্গে SIR-এর শুনানি পর্বে লজিকাল ডিসক্রিপেন্সি বা যুক্তিগ্রাহ্য অসঙ্গতি নিয়ে মামলায় নির্বাচন কমিশনকে একাধিক নির্দেশ দিয়েছে সুপ্রিম কোর্ট। ভোটার তালিকায় এ ধরনের অসঙ্গতি দূর করতে আগে কি ব্যবস্থা ছিল, তা জানতে চেয়েছিলাম রাজ্যের প্রাক্তন মুখ্য নির্বাচনী আধিকারিক দেবাশিস সেনের কাছে। তাঁর কথায়, ভোটার তালিকার বিশেষ নিবিড় সংশোধনের নামে দেশের কিছু মানুষকে দ্বিতীয় শ্রেণীর নাগরিক বানানোর চেষ্টা মেনে নেওয়া যায় না। নির্বাচন কমিশনের ভূমিকায় আন্তর্জাতিক মহলে ভারতের ভাবমূর্তি কালিমা লিপ্ত হচ্ছে বলেও তিনি মনে করেন।
In relation to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal, the Supreme Court on Monday, 19 January 2026, issued a set of directons to the Election Commission of India to ensure that the verification of the persons put in the 'logical discrepancies' category is conducted in a transparent manner, without causing stress and inconvenience to the persons.
According to Debashis Sen, former chief electoral officer of the state, SIR seems to be an attempt to create a large number of second class citizens in the country, which is unacceptable.
