I was 27 years old in 1990 and built this recoil black powder cannon for my brothers 30th birthday. It gave me many challenges as I spun it on a lathe that was too small for this size of project. It took 70 hours total to build and 40 hours to spin the barrel only. I used a shock off of my Dads old sand rail for the recoil. At one time we loaded it with 1 lb. of black powder to max it out. Barrel is 15-1/2" long with a 1-7/8" diameter bore. The last few inches are 2-1/2" to be able to shoot larger projectiles.
The last time it was shot was in 2002, 20 years ago, as seen here at the end of this video.
