18 Holes at Filton Golf Club. Every shot from my round at this smashing Bristol parkland course

Every shot from my round at The Filton Golf Club in Filton, Bristol, on 18th June 2024. Also available in 4k!

I'd played earlier in the morning at another course in Bristol and as always try to make the most of my free time. So with a free space on the course, I jumped at my chance to get on the first tee at Filton.

The course is located very close to the old airfield at Filton and surrounded by signs of its aviation history. Many aerospace companies are still close by and there are views towards the old airfield from a couple of the holes. Access is down a small lane through many of these businesses but once at the club, you emerge into a haven of green as the course extends away from the clubhouse.

The course itself is a parkland style course with two loops of nine starting from the clubhouse. The first few holes are fairly standard fare and a nice easing into your round with the challenge ramping up from the 5th with a tricky par 5, followed by the challenging 7th which requires an accurate tee shot to set up an approach to a challenging two tiered green. The back nine has a good variety of holes with three very demanding long par 4's, including the last two holes which make for a really tough finish. I preferred the back 9 personally, but on reflection, they complement each other well and make for a rounded set of 18.

The course was in good condition with the fairways nicely firm and greens holding a good pace, although there were quite a few pitch marks to repair around the course. Its location in the Bristol area would undoubtedly make it popular and hence the course showing signs of use but it didn't detract one bit from the experience.

Again, I managed to post a nice score even with some inconsistencies off the tee and manged a lovely birdie 2 which always goes down well. As I've said many times before, it's not about the score for me, more the experience and I certainly enjoyed my afternoon here at Filton.
