Mufti Shamayel Nadwi is an Indian Islamic scholar who first gained widespread attention after his debate with Javed Akhtar on “Does God Exist?”. He is again in the spotlight after a recent speech in Nanded, where he said that Muslims’ issues cannot be solved by political parties but through adherence to religion and following the Prophet’s path. Born in Kolkata, he studied at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, completed an MPhil in Islamic Jurisprudence, and is pursuing a PhD at IIUM, Malaysia. He is the founder of Markaz al-Wahyin, highly active on social media, and known among youth for his engaging Islamic lectures.
