Fleetwood Mac ~ World Turning 1975 Classic Rock Purrfection

"World Turning" is an album track on Fleetwood Mac's "White" self titled LP with the now classic lineup of John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham recording together for the very first time. It was a sleeper hit album that just kept expanding and reaching a new audience and prepared us for the frenzy of "Rumours".

Rock stations like WRIF (Detroit) were playing this wonderful album track along with the other album tracks that were not released as singles that refined my taste in rock and roll with the superior production techniques of the band.

This one was written and sung by Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie, it is a lament about the hard times we all face and getting through it as the world never stops turning. We have to keep up, yep everybody's got me down but that world turning means get up catch up and keep up.

The unmasking of Canada and America is going to be hard, having been hiding behind masks for two plus years... Its gonna feel like I am naked. I suppose a lot of you out there are thinking the same thing, putting yourself out there and your confidence feels a little shaky after months of staying away from everyone might be a scary thing, but take that first step and it will start coming back.

The song has its roots in a song Fleetwood Mac recorded in 1968, Peter Green's "The World Keeps On Turning". Buckingham and McVie reworked the song and truncating it and renaming it "World Turning". Lindsey used two guitars, an electric guitar and a dobro, a resonator guitar.

Another notable inclusion is the use of a "talking" drum that was specially constructed for Mick Fleetwood. Having an hourglass shape, it is held under the arm against the body to change the pitch by squeezing and it mimics the tone and rhythm of human speech.

"World Turning" has been played on every Fleetwood Mac tour and Mick brings his talking drum to every performance.
