Boulder Creek Camp to Lima- This section started out on a promising note. The Pioneer Scenic Byway was incredible, with low traffic and tons of eye-popping scenery. I met some new friends at Elkhorn, including Gary, 79 years old and strong as an ox. Then I had the longest; 13 hours; and toughest day of riding I can remember. Oppressive heat, hordes of biting flies, no shade, manure-infested water, and a summit that seemed to climb forever. I felt a little better after talking with other riders that they shared the same miseries I had on that section.
In Lima, I enjoyed a motel and dinner with Seth, Gary, Nicola and Martin.
Despite all of the hardships, this route is amazing, and I haven't regretted anything.
