Hiking the Coumshingaun Lough looped walk in the Comeragh Mountains, Waterford and wild camping at the lough. I completed this walk 18 months earlier but I wanted to do it again to see if dizziness I experienced on my first trip would happen for me again or if it was a once off occurrence. On my earlier visit I managed to complete the looped walk but I didn't feel very comfortable or safe and it was quite unusual for me to have such a strong reaction.
I decided to camp at the lake knowing that it would be very unlikely that any other people would choose to camp in January. When I last camped at Coumshingaun Lough it was at the height of Summer and there were at least 6 other tents. It's always nice to have such a special place all to myself when I bring the tent.
I walked from Kilclooney Forest carpark to the mouth of the lake and pitched the tent before setting off on the looped walk. There are decent tracks to guide you along as it is a well trodden path and visited by many. I chose to go on a week day as I assumed it would be quieter and it certainly was. When I returned to the carpark in the late morning on Saturday the throngs of visitors had arrived. Great that so many people in Ireland are getting out to experience such a wonderful part of our landscape.
