William H. Pitsenbarger had a chance to save himself—but he chose to save others.
This documentary tells the true and historically accurate story of William H. Pitsenbarger, a U.S. Air Force Pararescueman during the Vietnam War whose courage and selflessness became legendary. On April 11, 1966, he voluntarily descended into intense enemy fire to treat and protect wounded soldiers—refusing evacuation multiple times so others could live.
Though only 21 years old, Pitsenbarger’s actions saved countless lives. For decades, the soldiers he rescued fought to ensure his sacrifice was fully recognized. In 2000, more than 34 years later, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
This video explores:
His path to becoming a Pararescueman (PJ)
The rescue mission at Cam My, Vietnam
Why he chose to stay when escape was possible
His legacy and the meaning of “That Others May Live”
