This video shows how to replace the carpet with engineered hardwood floor on concrete.
00:00-00:08 carpet to be replaced
00:09-00:11 remove sliding closet door bottom guide.
00:12-00:25 cut, pull up, and roll the carpet.
00:26-00:27 remove the carpet underlayment (padding).
00:28-05:50 remove the carpet tack strips and nails from the concrete floor.
05:51-06:17 sweep the concrete floor.
06:18-07:06 use a scraper to remove the residue of carpet underlayment (padding) induced by the glue on the concrete floor.
07:07-07:56 clean the pits in the concrete floor. These pits were induced when the nails of tack strips were pulled out of the concrete floor.
07:57-08:38 fill all the pits using concrete and make the concrete floor flat and clean.
NOTE: In general, it is a good idea to put a moisture barrier on the concrete floor before installing the hardwood floor.
08:39-14:28 start installing engineered hardwood floor from one side of the room. Leave an expansion gap between the wood flooring board and the wall.
14:29-18:20 deal with the corners and wall between closet and cabinet.
18:21-22:58 continue with the installation.
22:59-23:31 deal with the corner and wall between cabinet and door.
23:32-24:05 continue with the installation.
24:06-28:33 deal with the door jamb using oscillating multi tool.
28:34-33:55 continue with the installation.
33:56-37:48 deal with the last row and door jamb and finish the installation of hardwood boards.
37:49-37:54 remove the spacers.
37:55-38:48 use the backer rod to fill the expansion gap between hardwood boards and walls.
38:49-43:04 cut backer rod if needed to make it flat with the hardwood floor. Use caulk to seal the gap between wall and backer rod as well as the gap between backer rod and hardwood board. Cut and modify molding to fit well with the corners and jambs. Press the molding to the hardwood floor and fix it onto the wall by using nails.
43:05-51:25 use nail punch to drive nails into molding surface.
51:26-53:35 use wood putty to fill the nail pits and make the putty flush with the molding surface.
53:36-54:20 use wood putty to fill the gaps between moldings and make the putty flush with the molding surface.
54:21-55:06 use caulk to seal the gap between molding and wall.
55:07-57:18 put painter's tape, along the molding, on the hardwood floor and cabinet and paint the molding; after that, remove the painter's tape.
57:19-58:36 use a reducer to deal with the transition between hardwood floor and porcelain floor at the door.
