Generally, landlords make serious legal mistakes while renting out a house, due to which they suffer significant legal losses later.
Under the Punjab Rent Permit Act, 2009, whenever a house, shop, or any commercial property is rented out, it is mandatory to execute a written tenancy agreement and to have it registered. If this is not done and any legal dispute arises between the tenant and the landlord, the matter may be taken to the Rent Tribunal, and the government may impose a fine on the landlord.
Apart from this, whenever a house, shop, or any commercial property is rented out, it is mandatory to inform the local police, and failure to do so is a legal offence.
