SteelSeries Arctis 9X features a sturdy steel headband that wraps all the way around. A strap that's actually woven ski goggle fabric. The ski goggle fabric is how you adjust the tension of the headset itself.

The ear cushions are made out of fabric with foam on the inside. I much prefer more leather or even fake leather material on gaming headset ear cushions. These fabric ones can get a little hot after extended use. They are removable and replaceable as well, and when you remove them you'll be able to see the 40mm drivers in this headset. The rest of the headset is pretty much plastic all around.

On the left earmuff, we have the microphone, the game, and the chat mixer (not the volume but the mixer). On the right side, you have the volume dial that will increase or decrease the overall sound in the headset, a mic mute and unmute button, a Bluetooth button, a power on and off / EQ button, a Micro-USB cable for charging, and a 3.5mm headphone jack to connect to varies devices.

This is a fully wireless headset that connects directly to your Xbox using a 2.4GHz connection. You won't need any sort of cables running to your Xbox, and you don't need a USB dongle at all either. Also, unlike some "wireless" headsets, this is fully wirelessly meaning you don't need a wire running from the headset to your controller in order to chat with your friends online.

The 40mm drivers on this headset utilize Windows Sonic. I was able to get Dolby Atomos to work on this headset but couldn't tell much of a difference.

The audio quality on this headset is not the greatest that I've experienced from a gaming headset. You can set different EQs on this headset, but a lot of audio coming through sounded flat. Previous headsets I've used in the past have better audio than this headset.

There's 20 hours of battery life in the headset – never had any issues. Upset that there's a Micro-USB port and not USB-C. Doesn't even make sense in this day and age.

The headset features Bluetooth 4.1 and will work from about 20 feet away. Of course, Bluetooth will allow you to connect to your phone, or really any device that offers a Bluetooth connection (Tablet, phone, computer).

The microphone itself uses something called "ClearCast Noise Cancelling". According to SteelSeries, that means the microphones use a bidirectional design, which is the same technology used by aircraft carrier deck crews, to help cancel noise out around them.

Something I liked about this headset was the retractable mic feature. So when you're not using the microphone, if you want, you can push it into the headset itself. This also makes it much more convenient to use for non-gaming activities like listening to music on a plane or in a car.

There is mic monitoring on this headset, but it's not the best and not very present. You can slightly hear yourself through the headset which makes it sound and feel like you're not wearing the headset, but I really wish it was louder and more present.

If you're interested in customizing your audio settings, you can download some software on your computer called "SteelSeries Engine". You can then connect this headset to a computer using the included Micro-USB cable and start customizing various audio settings.

Overall this is a good headset, but I wouldn't say it's a great headset. The biggest complaints I have with the headset are the mic-monitoring and audio quality. The price point is a bit high when you consider other headsets on the market.
