In ancient Umuagu, twins had never been born. When Adaeze's belly revealed two heartbeats, the elders declared it an abomination.
"The gods reject such births!" the chief priest proclaimed. "She must leave before calamity strikes!"
Adaeze knelt in the village square, pregnant and pleading: "I am innocent. These children are blessings, not curses."
But tradition was absolute. Fear was stronger than mercy. They drove her into the forest with stones and curses.
For three days, she walked through the wilderness, bleeding, weakening, her babies kicking violently inside her. On the fourth day, she stumbled upon an ancient shrine deep in the forest.
The oracle found her. That night, under a blood-red moon, she gave birth to twin boys.
