You can quickly go through below about the video in brief.
Acne is such a common struggle for most people.
Even for those of us who experience a dramatic decline in acne-related symptoms over time,
the scarring stays for a while.
The uneven texture and tone it leaves our skin with is not something we desire, quite naturally.
For some people even bigger acne comedones leave small or minimal scars, whereas for some people the scar is bigger and deeper and may be pigmented as well.
Acne scars can exist in the form of pitted or raised skin and can occur on your face or even your body.
Acne scars are part and parcel of our skin’s healing process and are a result of the healing of inflammatory acne like papules, pustules, nodules, cysts.
Acne scars are probably the only thing worse than acne and we all have struggled with this condition. But how does this happen, right? Here’s how it goes down.
Scars essentially result from the damage to your skin following inflammation from acne cysts.
The cyst eventually ruptures and the damage done is covered up by a relatively large amount of collagen, which is the building block of your skin. This leads to an uneven bump or indentation on your skin. How big of a scar you will be left with after a blemish, if any at all, depends on the depth of the breakout.
Shallow lesions usually heal quickly and leave little-to-no scarring, these are honestly the most common.
Deeper lesions, on the other hand, spread to nearby tissue, causing a more pronounced scar.
There are 4 grades of acne scars
1) Macular acne scars
2) Mild Atrophy or Hypertrophy
3) Moderate Atrophy or Hypertrophy
4) Severe Atrophy or Hypertrophy
Apart from the grades of scars that determines the severity, there are also different types.
The 5 main types are ice-pick scars, rolling scars, boxcar scars, atrophic scars, and hypertrophic or keloid scars.
*Ice-pick scars are deep, narrow, and pitted scars. They are small pointed dents in the skin.
*Rolling scars are broad depressions with sloping edges.
*Boxcar scars are indented scars as well. They are broad depressions with sharply defined edges.
*Atrophic scars are flat, thin scars or depressed scars.
On the other hand, hypertrophic or keloid scars – are thick lumpy scars.
Maintaining a healthy skincare routine, identifying underlying problems of your skin such as dietary problems or hormonal problems, and treating this, helps.
In spite of this, if acne scars still develop, you can get them treated with various treatments like laser or light, Dermabrasion, fat fillers & cryotherapy
These treatments are very simple, effective, can be completely life-changing, and have low downtimes!
They can help in repairing damaged skin, improve the appearance of superficial, pigmented scars, improve the skin’s texture and tone.
Chemical peels, for instance, are great at deconstructing your damaged skin and scars.
Especially if your scars and acne are bumpy, radiofrequency, CO2 laser or spot chemical peels are really beneficial.
An acid-based solution/ RF categorization/ CO2 laser categorization/ intralesional injectable drugs are applied topically to either the entire face or just to bumps or areas of hypertrophic scarring to remove the outer layer of skin and stimulate collagen repair.
Your dermatologist is in the best position to assess your body, your skin, and its specific requirements. And they will be able to suggest the best treatment or combination of treatments to heal, reduce, or improve the appearance of your scars.
