KIRURU KIA GIKUU, meaning Shadow of Death, is a powerful and emotional drama exploring the silent and gracious wars married women fight behind closed doors. The film follows the lives of two friends, Mama Carol (Mirriam Wawira) and Mama Murugi (Lydia Nyaga), as they open up about their painful marital experiences.

Mama Carol feels like walking away from her marriage to Kimemia (Peter Kihagi Kamau) after enduring constant mistreatment from her mother-in-law. But when she shares her pain with her friend, Mama Murugi, she hears an even more heartbreaking story.

Mama Murugi tells how her husband, Gituamba (Sammy Ukavi), brings his supposedly sick mother (Nancy Mwangi) into their home. The mother-in-law pretends to be ill, creating constant conflict and tension. Gituamba blindly supports his mother, pushing Mama Murugi to the edge. When she decides to bring her mother into the house, the situation spirals out of control, and Gituamba now tries to find a way to remove both mothers from his home.
