The Holy Rosary | How To Pray (A Step By Step Guide)

The Rosary means "Crown of Roses". Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lies the awesome story of our salvation.

The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer. It begins with the Apostles’ Creed, which summarizes the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is a prayer taught by Jesus Himself to His Apostles. The first part of the Hail Mary is the Angel’s words announcing Christ’s birth and Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary. Saint Pius V officially added the second part of the Hail Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary center on the events of Christ’s life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and - added by Saint John Paul II in 2002 - the Luminous.

With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow, of glory and of light Jesus and Mary. It's a simple prayer, humble so much like Mary. The repetition in the Rosary is meant to lead one into restful and contemplative prayer related to each Mystery. The gentle repetition of the words helps us to enter into the silence of our hearts, where Christ’s Spirit dwells. It's a prayer we can all say together with her, the Mother of God. With the Hail Mary we invite Her to pray for us. She joins Her prayer to ours.
