Stroll Mellieħa’s shoreline to the Tunnara Museum and step into Malta’s tuna-fishing heritage.
Starting near the Santa Marija slipway along Dawret it-Tunnara, we spot WWII remnants, a retreat at Tas-Sorijiet, and the pebbly charm of Lacus Bay. Inside, Clare's guide, Tony, demos interactive exhibits funded in recent years, from knot-tying to archival clips.
Learn how centuries of tuna fisheries, especially in the Knights’ era, sustained communities, why nets were set between April–May, and how salted tuna kept for years. See the colossal kaprajjes “anchor,” diagrams from a former chief’s son, and discover Sicilian influences and local lore that keep this living tradition alive.
