This is before Rodney Mullen estblished the ollie on flat, in vert riding Alan "Ollie" Gelfand had in introduced it alrdeady in 1978 as a way to do arials with out grabbing the board, it was caled the ollie pop afetr Gelfand's nickname. Tony Alva was probably the first doing arials in the pool a few years earlier, but back then the sakters still grabbed the board.
