In this Archicad Foundations tutorial, we take a conceptual overview of modeling in Archicad, following the same step-by-step logic architects use when designing: from context, to massing, to interior spaces, and finally to detailed facade elements.

Instead of jumping straight into complex models, this lesson focuses on how to think about modeling, not just how to use tools. You’ll learn why starting with simple context models is often enough, how to gradually add detail, and how each modeling stage can be exported and 3D printed as a design sketch.

We begin by modeling a very simple context model, intentionally keeping the level of detail low to match early design stages. From there, we move into solid massing, basic facade indentations, and interior volumes. As the scale increases, the model becomes more detailed—while the printed format remains consistent—allowing you to compare design decisions across stages.

As the workflow progresses, we introduce interior spaces, split models into different levels, and begin placing interior objects, all while maintaining a clear relationship between scale, detail, and fabrication. The course culminates with a focused look at facade detailing, showing how only a small portion of the project needs to be modeled once the design reaches a high level of resolution.

This tutorial is ideal for architects who want to understand how to structure their modeling process in Archicad, how to work efficiently with limited time, and how to align conceptual design, BIM thinking, and 3D printing into one coherent workflow.
