Grounded E-RVs at Newlab Michigan Central

Newlab member and adventure startup Grounded unveiled its G2 Campervan last month with an epic 1,453 mile road trip across Michigan, taking in the state's stunning fall foliage in all-electric fashion. The fully electric, solar equipped, high roof campervan utilizes BrightDrop's Zevo platform, allowing users to sustainably explore for 250+ miles per charge, with 640 watts of solar to charge electronics and appliances.

The G2's modular interior furniture lets owners easily reconfigure layouts for seating, dining, and sleeping needs. An accompanying Grounded+ app enables control of lighting, appliances, temperature and more while monitoring battery levels and accessing real-time location and driving data.

Grounded co-founder Sam Shapiro set up shop at Newlab Michigan Central over original plans for Austin, TX to take advantage of Newlab's prototyping shops and support teams, and to capitalize on the proximity to the Detroit mobility ecosystem. Building in Detroit allowed Grounded to bring its vision for earth-friendly recreational travel to market more rapidly.

In addition to the Newlab prototyping facilities, Newlab partner Michigan Central now hosts an on-site rental and charging depot, where area travelers can book short excursions in Grounded vans. As part of the partnership, Brooklyn-based curbside charging company itselectric provides charging for Grounded's rental fleet, delivering smart urban charging solutions and creating the first-ever e-RV rental experience.
